Foster + Partners will be opening its Battersea studio to the public as part of the 2016 London Open House weekend. Entry is to the mezzanine floor, where there will be a display of recent projects and visitors will have a view over the 60-metre studio.

A number of buildings in London designed by Foster + Partners will also be accessible during Open House 2016. These include 30 St Mary Axe, ‘The Gherkin’ (City of London); the Sackler Galleries at the Royal Academy of Arts, HM Treasury (Westminster); One Bishops Square (Tower Hamlets); and City Hall (Southwark).

On Saturday, City Hall will also be the site for the new Live Music Sculpture by the music composer Samuel Bordoli, which expresses and explores the design of the building with sound. A musician will be located on each level of the 500 metre ramp that curves around the inside of the building, forming a spatial dialogue with another group of six musicians on the floor of the chamber. The audience will enter the chamber at the top and descend downwards along the ramp at their own pace until they reach the assembly floor, experiencing the performance as they travel through the building. Open House London is an annual celebration of the capital’s architecture, which has been running for more than twenty years. It takes place during the weekend of 17-18 September 2016, when more than 700 buildings, many of which are normally closed, are opened to the public – all for free. It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the richness of London’s architectural heritage.
