Foster and Partners have had a good week. At the launch of this year's AJ100 survey on 12 May we scooped the award for 'International Practice of the Year' and the following day were revealed in Building Design as the most impactful architectural practice working in Britain.
The AJ100 award is one of five special awards introduced to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the the AJ100. The International Practice of the Year accolade is given at the AJ's discretion. The jury described Foster and Partners as having made 'an extraordinary effort to maintain a global reputation built over the past 20 years. Over that period it has become the nearest thing Britain has to being the world's favourite architect... The judging panel had no hesitation in giving the practice this award.'
Foster and Partners also came top of the list for 'Fee Income' and third overall in terms of UK qualified architects behind BDP and Atkins. Swiss Re was voted 'Best Building of 2004' with The Sage Gateshead in 4th place.
The new survey by Building Design The 2005 BD Impact 100 ranks the practice as the most celebrated, most prolific and most talked about practice in the country. Foster and Partners heads an exclusive top 100 list which ranks architects performance over the last three years by the volume of construction it has overseen, the number and prestige of design awards it has picked up and the extent of coverage in the national and trade press. Building Design wrote Quite simply Foster and Partners comes out top on every one of our three criteria. [They] have built the most, been celebrated the most and been written about the most in the press. It is an incredible record that shows no sign of falling to any rival.
