Building on the practice’s previous expertise in the automotive industry, Foster + Partners has been commissioned by Hankook Tire to design a new 99,175-square-metre research and development facility in the city of Daejeon, South Korea. A signing ceremony was held in Daejeon on 7 January to commemorate the new venture.

The new centre will house design, research and testing facilities, together with supporting office accommodation, an education centre, a library and series of exhibition spaces. The project aims to support Hankook Tire's progressive and technologically advanced approach to tyre design and manufacture and construction is due to be completed by the end of 2015.

Mr. Hyun Bum Cho, President and Chief Marketing & Corporate Management Officer at Hankook Tire: "Upon completion of the new R&D facility, Hankook will be able to further strengthen research capabilities to develop cutting-edge tyre technology." He also added, “The new R&D centre will enable us to accelerate the introduction of new tyres with even more advanced features, fulfilling our customers demand for premium quality products."
