City Center DC

Site selection and analysis of the existing topography and climate.

City Center DC
USA
2006 - 2014

The mixed-use City Center development occupies the site of the former Washington Convention Center in downtown Washington. Previously enclosed by a single, vast structure, the masterplan reinstates a historic street pattern to break the ten-acre site into smaller, pedestrian blocks. The arrangement of these blocks is guided by climate analysis, with the form and location of each building designed to maximise daylight to the central plazas. Solar shading is also integrated and responds to orientation, reducing solar gain while maximising daylight.
