The Yacht Club forms the centrepiece of Monaco’s remodelled harbour, and provides an important social hub for the Principality. Throughout the building, the quality in its detailing, finishes and choice of materials reflects the high levels of service for which the Club is renowned. As well as creating a range of interior spaces, from guest ‘cabins’ to the exclusive clubroom, the project also involved working with the historic Sailing Club to create an appropriate setting and display for their eclectic collection of nautical objects, artworks, trophies, books and models. The collection covers an enormous range, in terms of both value and importance, and is continually growing and evolving. In response, the internal walls incorporate a bespoke and highly flexible display system that allows objects to be easily exhibited, replaced and reconfigured. The system was developed to maximise the opportunities to exhibit a large number of different objects, rather than highlighting individual pieces – a strategy that allows the club to express the changing personalities of its membership, while remaining faithful to its core values and traditions.
