St. Moritz, Switzerland
2005 - 2006
Both the casual bar and more formal restaurant spaces of the Posthaus in St Moritz are designed to feel comfortable and timeless. Every aspect of the interior, from the furniture to the open wood-burning grill that forms the centrepiece of the restaurant, is a bespoke piece, perfectly tailored for the client’s needs. Extensive use was made of local craftsmen to fabricate the fixtures, such as the grill and the fireplaces. The principal decoration on the white and earth toned walls is a sequence of large black and white images of the Engadin Valley by Albert Steiner, and the glass light fittings were conceived and originally custom-made in the Foster studio. Subsequently, the concept was extended to form the Illium range for the Italian lighting manufacturer, Nemo.
