The design of the flexible, light-filled workspaces is itself rooted in research – the design team visited several laboratories, and analysed the way that researchers interacted and used their workspaces. Adaptable lighting, furnishing and spatial planning allow teams to collaborate and expand, while supporting concentrated individual working. The hard surfaces are broken up by interior screens of translucent fabric, and a linear pendant light at the centre of each arched ceiling turns the vault into a reflector of diffused light, complemented by focused task lighting at bench level.
