The challenge in designing a series of new airline lounges for Cathay Pacific at Hong Kong International Airport was to create interior spaces that would harmonise with the existing building, while offering an entirely new experience for the traveller. The range of amenities has been extended, from meeting rooms, restaurants and bars, to private ‘cabanas’, where passengers can retreat into luxurious travertine-lined bathroom suites. Bespoke furnishings include a custom-designed white marble bar, which stretches 23 metres across the balcony, and the Solus Chair, which combines desk and lounge chair. A rich palette of materials, combining leather upholstery, stone, bamboo and lacquered eucalyptus, is designed to reintroduce a little glamour to international air travel.
