Casablanca, Fez, Rabat, Marrakech, Eljadida, Morocco
2007 - 2009
The practice was commissioned to design a series of new branches for Moroccan bank, BMCE, which would signal a dynamic presence in the cities of Casablanca, Fez and Rabat. Interior and exterior were considered as a whole; the patterned metal screens are integral to the façade, visible inside and out, and the space is centred on a wide, rounded bench, which sweeps down from the ceiling in a bold, sculptural gesture.
The flagship banks are based on a scalable kit-of-parts system – this was further developed as a set of design guidelines, which could be applied to inspire the look and feel of future branches.
