This year there are four projects by Foster and Partners on display in the Architecture Room at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. These include: a model of the Millau Viaduct in France, concept images for the new terminal of the Beijing International Airport, a large drawing of the Elephant and Castle Masterplan in London, and an aerial visualisation of the new glass roof enclosure for the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC.
The artists, Allen Jones and David Hockney, have curated the show with a special focus on drawing and the significance of drawing as a universal activity; drawings by people working outside the art world are given special prominence. Richard Long is this year's featured artist and Royal Academician, Anish Kapoor, has selected and hung the gallery dedicated to the display of sculpture.
The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition has been held annually since 1768 and is the largest open contemporary art exhibition in the world.
