The Place range of kitchen furniture is the product of a twelve-month collaboration between Foster and Partners and Dada SpA. It evolved out of a series of discussions on the changing nature of the kitchen. Instead of being used to simply prepare food, the kitchen now accommodates a varied range of activities that Fosters felt the design should allow for.
The design development of the kitchen coincided with the construction of Albion Riverside, a large-scale residential project on the River Thames by Foster and Partners. Dada won the contract to supply the kitchens fit-outs, and this contract allowed the design team to refine and improve the functional aspects of the design.
The Product Design team decided to re-examine the idea of the fitted kitchen and explore the idea of allowing the various components to be responsive, creating a dynamic product range that did not require extensive on-site installation.
Foster and Partners have designed this kitchen with an understanding that the modern kitchen has become the focal point of the contemporary house, providing an informal environment where family and friends can freely enjoy one anothers company. We have incorporated a number of systems and technological that we believe will help the users better support their daily activities, utilise their space better, and respond to their ever-evolving lifestyles.
