Duravit - Sanitaryware
Various, Germany, 2001
There are more than 30 elements in the Duravit series, ranging from baths, shower units and basins, to towel rails and liquid soap dispensers. Each of these elements is generated by a consistent geometry based on two adjacent circles.
Bathroom suites normally consist only of the ‘ceramic’ items – bath, shower unit, washbasin, toilet and bidet – requiring people to match taps, accessories and other bathroom furniture as best they can. The practice has a holistic and integrated approach to the design of interiors and believes this separation to be artificial. Foster + Partners worked with Duravit to create a coherent, minimal family of products. All the sanitary elements within the range are made from high-quality acrylic and the showers, baths and steam baths are made from vacuum-formed acrylic. The storage units – wall-mounted mirrored cabinets and larger free-standing cupboards for storing towels and bathrobes – follow the geometry of the sanitary elements. The basin’s design follows a consistent geometry based on two adjacent circles.
