The co-operation between Foster and Partners and Vitra began in Jan 1997.
The industrial design team, working within the Foster and Partners architectural Practice had been developing an idea for a new range of seating products relating to the issue of waiting.
From the direct experiences of Foster and Partners, relating to the installation of large numbers of public area seating, there was a realisation that there was a need for a product that was less institutional in its approach. Visually light, capable of withstanding the rigors of public areas and yet was comfortable and flexible in its construction to respond to a wide variety of demands placed on it by the specifiers.
From a restricted ' Kit - of - Parts', Airline Seating by Vitra offers differing levels of comfort, dimensions, materials and configurations. This coupled with ease of transportation, installation and servicing has resulted in a visually strong product range which allows the specifier the opportunity to tune the product to suit their requirements at a very competitive cost per seat.
