Tecno - Kite Chair

Conceived to accompany the Nomos range of desks and tables, the Kite chair quickly assumed an identity of its own. Like a kite, it comprises an efficiently engineered frame over which soft fabrics can be stretched.
The project is the result of a close collaboration between Foster + Partners and Tecno. The Milan-based company had been a close and frequent collaborator of the practice since the original development of the Nomos range of tables and furniture. During this period, the office environment moved towards greater informality in working patterns and there was a demand for greater flexibility for personal expression. The ‘Kite’ chair was conceived with an awareness of these changes. The chair is fabricated on a robotised production line, using welded sheet metal components. Like a kite, it comprises an efficiently engineered frame over which soft fabrics can be stretched: the stiffening fold on its seat-back reinforces the aerodynamic kite theme. The mood and appearance of the chair can be changed by specifying different colour and fabric combinations.
