The office environment has changed, with greater flexibility of working patterns and more flexibility for personal expression. The 'Kite' chair was conceived with an awareness of these changes. Like a kite it is an efficiently engineered frame over which soft fabrics are draped. There are opportunities to change the mood and appearance of the chair by using different combinations of colours and materials. The technology is sophisticated yet simply expressed and informs the instantly recognisable identity. The distinctive appearance of the folded plate on a structurally stiffened back is also evocative of a kite.
The project is the result of a close collaboration between Foster and Partners and Tecno, the Milan based company, with whom the practice has had a close relationship for many years since the launch of the Nomos range of tables and furniture.
