Southwark Council agrees Foster and Partners’ Masterplan for Elephant and Castle Last night Southwark Council gave the go-ahead to the creation of a new London quarter as part of the 1.5 billion regeneration of Elephant and Castle.
The Framework for Development a masterplan for the regeneration of this 170acre site was adopted by the councils Executive Committee last evening. Foster and Partners developed the framework in partnership with a professional team including planning consultants Tibbalds TM2, Gehl Architects and Space Syntax, which outlines ten main elements that together will put the heart back into the Elephant and Castle.

Southwark Council can now start the search for formal expressions of interest from developers capable of delivering its vision for a new town centre serving Southwark, South London and beyond. The council also hopes to recruit housing association partners within the next few months that can begin constructing some of the early housing sites by the end of 2004.
