Designs revealed for two major new judicial buildings in Madrid On Monday 17 April, the President of the Madrid region, Esperanza Aguirre, signed an agreement with Lord Foster to design the first two buildings to be constructed in the new Justice Campus being created in the Spanish capital. These buildings will be the High Court of Justice and the Supreme Court for the Comunidad de Madrid.
The new Madrid Justice Campus will enable all the judicial buildings for the region to be brought together on one site. The concept of justice is at the heart of our civic values and the architecture of these first two buildings will seek to reflect these qualities in an open and democratic manner. The site at Valebevas Park, adjacent to the airport of Barrajas and part of a wider urban plan, will be entirely pedestrianised with below ground parking and services and with enhanced transport links to the centre of Madrid.
Lord Foster said: We are delighted to be working on this bold and symbolic project for Madrid, and we look forward to articulating the values of transparent accountability and democracy that are at the heart of the judicial system, also with an agenda of sustainable design.
Foster and Partners begins work on the buildings this week and the scheme is expected to begin construction next spring.
